Attract Birds to Your Garden For Insect Control.

Many common birds that are seen feeding at backyard birdfeeders are also voracious insect eaters when they are feeding their young. Young birds need high protein diets, and many adult birds that are normally seed or fruit eaters will help control insects in the spring and early summer. Attract birds to your yard by providing an area of shrubs and trees along an edge of your property. Provide feeders and bird baths at different levels and you will attract a variety of allies for controlling unwanted insects. Some insect eating birds also are fruit eaters, so if you grow fruit to eat yourself, be sure to cover your plants with netting. Plant some crab apple, roses or other sources of fruit that you won’t mind the birds eating, and everyone will be happy.
