Organic Farming Degree Offered at Washington State.

With 597 organic farms and lots of farmer's markets and organic food stores Washington is a good candidate for the new Organic Farming Degree program. The California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) sees the organic farming degree program as helping to legitimize organic farming.

Once considered a niche market with questionable economics, organic farming is the fastest growing and most profitable field or agriculture. Demand for food grown without hormones, pesticides and other chemicals is exploding.

Even retailers like Wal-Mart are creating a demand for organically grown food. They are the largest buyer of organic foods and they are in the process of developing organic products.

This growing demand will ensure the demand for farmer's trained in organic methods to grow, process, market and certify organic foods.
